Hugh has extensive experience of prosecuting and defending regulatory offences in the criminal courts. Particular work includes:
Prosecuting and defending breaches of planning control, both in relation to enforcement notices and breach of condition notices, and dealing with public law defences to such prosecutions.
Confiscation proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. Hugh recently appeared on behalf of a local authority in a 3 day contested application for a confiscation order before the Crown Court, successfully obtaining an order in the sum of £36,000.
Prosecuting public sector housing offences, in particular fraudulent homelessness and benefits applications.
Education prosecutions for local authorities.
Appearing on PII applications on behalf of social services departments in criminal trials.
