Civil Litigation

Matt takes a practical and commercial approach to achieving the best outcome for his clients, usually viewing litigation as a last resort. Where litigation is necessary, he is extremely tenacious.

Matt has considerable experience of civil and commercial litigation, including the full range of interim remedies, such as injunctions, freezing injunctions, search orders and security for costs. Regularly advises on all manner of contractual disputes, including construction litigation and adjudication, also procurement and commercial JRs. Has considerable experience of unjust enrichment claims. He is able to bring his broad range of legal knowledge to bear on “cross-over” cases involving elements of public, EU and Human Rights law.

His recent High Court caseload includes a multi-million pound claim for breach of an exclusive distribution contract, a million pound claim based on a disputed novation, a substantial claim for breach of trust and tracing remedies, a £5 million civil fraud/trespass claim, applications to set aside interim search and freezing orders based on material non-disclosure, setting aside a settlement on the grounds of economic duress, waiver by estoppel, several restitutionary claims worth £ several millions, and a substantial claim against the Secretary of State based on breach of Article 1 of Protocol 1 to the ECHR.
