Judgment at Nuremberg, Kilburn Theatre, London

From the 6th – 9th July the Tricycle Theatre welcomes a company of legal professionals to its stage in a fundraising production of Judgment at Nuremberg in which Gerard Forlin QC will be performing.

One of the most important records of the Holocaust, Judgement at Nuremberg is as potent and relevant as ever, and the Nuremberg trials remain a model for international criminal tribunals. Mann’s overwhelming compassion strikes at the heart of human suffering and yet reaffirms humanity and justice.

The proceeds from the performances will go towards the Tricycle’s Education, Social Inclusion and Artistic Programme. Proceeds from Thursday night’s performance will be equally split between the Tricycle and the Corinne Burton Memorial Trust (supporting Art Therapy in Cancer Care).

2011 London Legal sponsored walk

2011 London Legal sponsored walk
Monday, March 21, 2011

This year's London Legal Walk will be held on the afternoon of Monday, 16th May.

We are raising funds for the London Legal Support Trust which funds Law Centres and pro bono agencies in and around London. These agencies do a fantastic job in preventing homelessness, resolving debt problems, gaining care for the elderly and disabled and fighting exploitation.

These agencies rely on funds raised by the London Legal Walk and at a time when legal aid is being restricted and funding from government is drying up, it is more important than ever to support the good work they do.

We are sending a team of walkers from Chambers to pound the pavements for 10km. So far the following members have signed up:

James Findlay QC

Bryan McGuire QC

Gerard Forlin QC

Catherine Rowlands

Richard Ground

Ryan Kohli

Emma Dring

We will also be joined by our Chambers Director Lynne Orsborn and our Marketing Assistant Phil Desmondez.

Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL): What it means for you

Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL): What it means for you
Saturday, March 19, 2011

CIL is set to be an important measure to allow Councils to ensure development can go ahead which benefits local communities. In the current constrained financial climate, the ability to fund physical, social, and community infrastructure is a critical issue for decision makers. Hand in hand with CIL will be the scaling back of the scope for planning obligations. After some earlier mixed messages the Government has now confirmed the retention of the CIL regime, with further refinements announced in the Localism Bill.

Chambers was pleased to host this conference covering:

  • An overview of the current CIL Regulations 2010 and anticipated changes after the Localism Bill Click here for slides by Michael Bedford
  • How to establish a charging schedule and an evidence base Click here for slides by Jonathan Clay
  • How to collect CIL (liability, timing, exemptions, and enforcement) Click here for slides by Harriet Townsend
  • How to spend CIL (qualifying infrastructure, administrative costs, pump priming, and borrowing) Click here for slides by Alun Alesbury
  • The relationship of CIL with s106 planning obligations Click here for slides by Jonathan Clay
