Best Bar None Announces Philip Kolvin QC As New Chairman

Best Bar None, the national award scheme aimed at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises in the night time economy is pleased to announce that Philip Kolvin QC has been appointed by the national board and committee as their new chairman.

Philip Kolvin’s appointment follows the resignation of Best Bar None’s current chairman, Lord Redesdale, who has served in the role since 2007.

Philip is a leading licensing barrister whose clients span the industry, local government, national regulators and local communities. He is the Patron of the Institute of Licensing and the Chairman of Purple Flag. He is widely published in the field. As such, Philip will bring a wealth of knowledge and advice to the role.

Philip stated: “I am pleased and honoured to have been asked to chair this important scheme. Best Bar None plays a dual role of improving the economic viability of bars while reducing crime and disorder and the need for regulatory intervention, all crucial attributes in the current economic and political climate. I intend to use my time as Chairman to work with the Board to increase the prevalence and profile of the scheme while maintaining the rigorous standards required of Best Bar None participants.

Lord Redesdale stated: “After five enjoyable years, it seemed an appropriate time to step down and allow new leadership to take Best Bar None on to the next stage. Philip is someone I know will be able to add great guidance and focus to the national scheme.”
