Who we are

  • We have had a distinguished history as a specialist planning set for over 50 years and we continue to be recognised as one of the five foremost Planning sets by both Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500; currently 6 silks and 11 juniors are ranked as leaders in the planning and environmental field by the Legal Guides.
  • The Legal 500  recognises our strength across chambers with “a good range of senior silks and new silks, as well as some excellent juniors, particularly senior juniors”. Chambers and Partners  states, Interviewees are full of praise for the “helpful, well-structured and commercial guidance” offered by the members of a set noted for its “straight-talking approach”, "the set is a big player in Wales" whilst a previous edition recognises chambers as “firmly grounded in planning and licensing work for which its barristers win endorsements galore.”

What we do

  • We act for both private developers and public development agencies, including over 300 local authorities, as well as third party objectors. Our work with major developers ensures we remain involved with a wide range of high-profile projects. Many members divide their time between England and Wales, with expertise in the two increasingly different planning systems. As well as our premises at 2 Gray’s Inn Square in London, we also have an office in Cardiff and members appear regularly in the  High Court in Cardiff as well as at public inquiries and other courts all over the UK.
  • Planning problems are invariably interwoven with other related areas of the law including environmental issues, compulsory purchase and compensation, minerals and waste, rights of way, highways, village greens and commons and harbours. We have expertise in all these areas and we can provide you with an holistic approach to all problems related to development, wherever they come from. We pride ourselves in providing appropriate and comprehensive advice
  • We have a programme of seminars in England and Wales, and members speak extensively at conferences. Drawing on our considerable experience in related practice areas, particularly from its knowledge of the workings of local government, our team is very well placed to continue to offer high quality advice in all aspects of the planning and environmental field.
