Constitutional decisions in an uncertain world - Exploring the early years of the Reed court and its reaction to pressures and reforms

On the occasion of the launch of Sam Fowles' new book, Overruled: Our Vanishing Democracy in 8 Cases, Cornerstone Barristers invites you to a panel discussion that will investigate the new context for constitutional litigation.

The event will explore the Supreme Court's changing approach to constitutional and public law litigation and whether it is possible to identify trends in the Court's recent decisions. The event is focused on the needs of practitioners and litigants and will examine the implications of the Supreme Court's decisions for claimants and defendants in first-instance judicial reviews.

Sam has acted in some of the leading constitutional matters of recent years, including Miller/Cherry v The Prime Minister ("the Prorogation Case"), Hamilton v Post Office, and the Clapham Common Inquiry. His book explores the erosion of our democracy across multiple fronts from the perspective of these (and other) cases.

Our discussion will be relevant to practitioners with both claimant and defendant-focused practices, including local authorities, NGOs, charities, and individuals.
