Joana Setzer is an Associate Professorial Research Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Her work focuses on climate litigation and environmental governance, and she leads the Institute’s Climate Change Laws of the World project, the most comprehensive global resource on climate policy and legislation. Joana joined Cornerstone Barristers as an associate member in March 2026.
With more than two decades of experience in environmental and climate law, Setzer’s research explores the role of courts and legal frameworks in driving climate action. She is widely recognised internationally for her work on global trends in climate litigation and regularly advises governments, international organisations and NGOs on climate-related legal and policy issues.
