Luke Decker was called to the Bar of England and Wales by Inner Temple after having received the Princess Royal Scholarship (the Inn’s top award for the law conversion course), a further Major Scholarship, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Luke received his Master of Arts (M.A.) in Law, with Distinction, from The University of Law. He had one of the highest marks in the country in Land Law and wrote his dissertation on the same. Uniquely, Luke also holds a Master of Architecture (M.Arch), making him an obvious choice for property-related cases, including landlord and tenant disputes. He is also an obvious choice for cases that are technical in nature, including those that may require expert evidence on alterations and disrepair/dilapidations.
Luke has appeared on his feet in more than 400 cases (including several hundred possession cases) at first instance across both the County Court and the High Court. He also appeared recently in the Court of Appeal (unled) for the successful Respondent landlord in the landmark case Switaj v McClenaghan [2024] EWCA Civ 1457; [2025] 1 WLR 1420 against one of England’s senior most public law KC’s, Mr Martin Westgate KC. The case was reported in a full page by The Times.
Outside of his court advocacy, Luke is also a Research Assistant to Sir Richard Aikens (formerly Aikens LJ of the Court of Appeal), who is one of the specialist editors of Dicey, Morris & Collins on the Conflict of Laws. Luke is a contributor to Ch.11 (Jurisdiction in Claims in Personam) of Dicey by virtue of that research position.
Luke qualified and practiced as a Solicitor at one of the world’s top U.S. law firms in London before transferring to the Bar and cross-qualifying in 2023.
