Chambers mourns the passing of former Senior Clerk Robin Soule (1937–2025)

Chambers regrets to announce the death on 14 September 2025 of Robin Soule, who was Chambers’ senior clerk in the days when it was at 8 New Square in Lincoln’s Inn.
Robin was born on 24 April 1937 and joined the clerking team in the mid 1950s when Chambers was at 3 Temple Gardens (and junior clerks still had to replenish coal supplies for the fireplaces in barristers’ rooms). Robin became senior clerk in 1975, a post he held for 14 years.
During this time he is credited with negotiating the Bar’s first £1M brief fee for Anthony Scrivener QC and he oversaw chambers expansion, including it becoming a leading planning and public law set under the auspices of Sir Graham Eyre QC and Malcolm Spence KC. His legacy also included nurturing the future of many other successful clerks.
