Last week, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights released its long-awaited Advisory Opinion on the Climate Emergency and Human Rights, a groundbreaking development that is expected to define member states’ climate obligations under international human rights law.
Members of Cornerstone Climate collaborated with the Global Strategic Litigation Council and a coalition of Caribbean civil society groups on an amicus brief which was submitted to the Court.
The Advisory Opinion comes hot on the heels of another groundbreaking judgment from the Higher Regional Court of Hamm in the case of Lliuya v RWE, which has potentially enormous implications for the law of climate attribution.
Register for our webinar at 6pm on 10th July co-hosted with the Grantham Research Institute (GRI) where we’ll be deep diving into the Lliuya v RWE decision and its wider implications and providing an initial response on the significance of the IACHR Advisory Opinion
