Gerard Forlin KC to speak at IBA Annual Conference 2026 on global criminalisation of psychosocial and health and safety breaches
Gerard Forlin KC, FRAeS, BL (Ireland) will speak at the International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference 2026 in Copenhagen, joining an international panel examining the growing criminalisation of breaches of psychosocial and health and safety duties.
The session, “The increasing global criminalisation of breaches of psychosocial and health and safety duties: what should directors be doing to manage personal and corporate liability?”, will take place on Tuesday 6 October at 16:15 – 17:30.
The panel will consider the increasing exposure of corporations and directors to criminal liability for breaches of health and psychosocial duties owed to workers, recent developments across different jurisdictions, and the practical steps organisations and their directors should be taking to manage liability and establish a culture of safety and wellbeing.
Gerard is widely recognised as an international specialist in health and safety and regulatory law, with particular expertise in the developing field of psychosocial risk management. He has advised, practised and lectured internationally on the legal implications of workplace psychological health and safety and has spoken on the subject at previous IBA conferences.
Gerard was also the sole lawyer among the expert contributors to the Royal Aeronautical Society’s influential report, Psychosocial Risk Management and Mental Health: The Mental Health Challenge to Civil Aviation Safety in the 21st Century. The report examines how organisations can take a more systematic approach to identifying, managing and mitigating psychosocial risks, particularly within safety-critical industries. He is a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and has worked in over 80 countries.
The IBA Annual Conference 2026 takes place in Copenhagen from 4–9 October 2026.
