Lisa Busch KC
Public Law and Judicial Review, Planning and Environment, Local Government
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear friend and colleague, Lisa Busch KC.
Lisa was born in the USA and educated in Australia. She completed a BA in philosophy from the University of Western Australia. Receiving a scholarship, she completed a BPhil and Master of Studies at Oxford University. She retained an abiding interest in philosophy throughout her career: once engaged on the topic, there was really no stopping her. She then decided to move into the law. Quite what sparked her curiosity in the law, she was − she said − not quite sure. But whatever it was, it drove her to finance herself through further education and bar school, topping things up with scholarships, bursaries and prizes along the way. In 2000 she was called to the Bar by Inner Temple. After a little time with the Law Reform Commission, she accepted a pupillage from chambers at 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square and on completion was duly taken on as a tenant. She practised there for a number of years, then for a short period at Landmark Chambers, before finding her home in Cornerstone Barristers. In 2016 Lisa took silk.
Hers was a wide and varied public law practice − environmental law, human rights, planning law, education law, local government and immigration law, and so on. Private clients, central and local government bodies, businesses, all were keen to instruct Lisa. Once instructed, they remained loyal clients. What she brought to them all was undiminishing commitment, intelligence, clarity and, above all, profound humanity.
Lisa leaves her mother, sister and brother, all of whom live in London, and her partner David.
