Licensing, Public Law and Judicial Review
Philip Kolvin QC, Head of Cornerstone Barristers, has been appointed Chair of the Night Time Commission by Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. The appointment will take effect from Monday 9th January 2017.
As Chair, Philip will work one day a week, alongside the newly-appointed Night Czar Amy Lamé, to develop and implement a vision of London as a 24-hour city, with a focus on sustaining and safeguarding London’s night time economy.
Philip will preside over a revamped Commission which brings together stakeholders from across the night time industry including the Metropolitan Police, local planning and licensing authorities and industry operators.
Philip will maintain his busy and successful practice at the bar in licensing and public law and his role as Head of Cornerstone Barristers.
Philip comments:
“At the heart of every great city is a great night time economy. London’s night life is internationally-renowned and forms a key reason for people wanting to live, work and invest here.
“As the capital grows, we must plan for a growing night time economy – something that can only be achieved through meaningful partnerships with stakeholders, strategic planning, and investment in infrastructure.
“Following the successful launch of the Night Tube, new opportunities are arising to develop the Capital’s economy for the benefit of both customers and workers. I look forward to working with the capital’s new Night Czar Amy Lamé so that we can develop the role of London as the global leader of the night time economy.”
Philip is a Patron and past Chairman of the Institute of Licensing. He is on the advisory board of the Night Time Industries Association and recently published a Manifesto for the Night Time Economy, which sets out guiding principles for the development of vibrant, sustainable night time economies.
