Cornerstone Barristers is delighted to announce that Sarah Salmon will be joining Shomik Datta as joint head of our thriving Property team.
Demand for Cornerstone’s Property team is busier than ever. Our members have been very active this year, both in and out of court. They have hosted a popular series of Property Masterclass webinars and given lectures in the rapidly developing area of building safety and enforcement post-Grenfell. The team is currently finalising a programme of in person and virtual events to commence 2026.
Our members regularly appear before the higher courts and specialist tribunals on behalf of major landowners, developers and local authorities. Being able to offer ancillary planning, housing and public law expertise, we offer a comprehensive service for developments and disputes of all sizes, including large infrastructure projects.
Members of the team have recently been involved in:
- Acting on various sides of a recently reported Divisional Court test case relating to the recoverability of rent paid in Wales without a legal liability due to the absence of electrical condition reports
- A tripartite dispute soon to be heard about fire safety remediation within the Stratford Village development
- An ‘ancient lights’ right of light dispute relating to a large development in the City of London
- A Court of Appeal tenancy deposit decision in which the provision of unsigned prescribed information was considered adequate in the circumstances
- A significant dispute relating to an application to modify or discharge restrictive covenants affecting a large tract of land in London
- A public law challenge to the demolition of part of the Barbican Estate.
