Estelle Dehon KC has been instructed in a legal challenge on behalf of Ecotricity founder Dale Vince against the UK government’s decision to revoke key active travel guidance.

Vince, a prominent green campaigner, filed for a judicial review of the removal of the ‘Network Management to Support Active Travel’ guidance, which was introduced in 2020 under the Traffic Management Act 2004 to promote health and reduce pollution. The guidance, updated in 2022, was a crucial part of the government’s ‘Gear Change’ plan, aimed at increasing walking and cycling for climate and air quality targets.

In October 2023, the government scrapped this guidance in favour of a new ‘Plan for Drivers’, diminishing the focus on Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and active travel initiatives.

Estelle is instructed by Rowan Smith of Leigh Day, leading Jessica van der Meer of 2 Temple Gardens.
