Cornerstone Climate and Mishcon Purpose present the second in our flagship Climate Litigation Lessons from Around the Globe series, which will focus on India. This dynamic and timely series will bring together leading legal experts from multiple jurisdictions to examine key climate litigation cases and the evolving role of courts in addressing climate change.

This session will see our panel exploring key climate cases, including the seminal Supreme Court ruling in MK Ranjitsinh and Others v Union of India, as well as looking at the evolving role of litigation in India’s climate policy landscape.

Speakers

Vanita Bhargava is a Senior Member of the Dispute Resolution Team at Khaitan & Co, based in New Delhi. She is also an advocate on record in Supreme Court. She has almost 20 years of experience in a variety of matters including matters relating to environment laws, civil laws, corporate laws, mining laws, forest laws, shareholding disputes and arbitration (domestic and international), banking laws and insolvency matters. 

Shibani Ghosh is an Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India, and a Visiting Fellow at the Sustainable Futures Collaborative, New Delhi. As a litigator, Shibani appears in environmental cases before the Supreme Court of India, the High Court of Delhi and the National Green Tribunal. She researches and writes on issues relating to environmental law, regulation, and governance. She has authored several articles, book chapters, and opinion pieces on environmental issues, and has edited a volume titled ‘Indian Environmental Law: Key Concepts and Principles’ (Orient Blackswan, 2019).

Ruchi Parekh is a leading environmental barrister from Cornerstone Barristers who will chair the discussion bringing further insight to the panel with her experience in this critical space. Ruchi is a leading member of the Cornerstone Climate team and is ranked in the legal directories across four practice areas: administrative law and human rights; planning; environment; and data protection.
