On 9 and 10 January 2025, the Planning Inspectorate will hear an appeal concerning an application for outline planning permission for the construction of a 24-hour truck stop facility in the Green Belt, in the setting of the Kent Downs National Landscape.

The appeal is one of the first to raise issues concerning the Government’s new “Grey Belt” provisions, which were introduced into the NPPF in December 2024.

Asitha Ranatunga appears for the local planning authority, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council. Alex Williams appears for an alliance of local parish councils, including Wrotham Parish Council, who oppose the scheme.
