This case represented the culmination of long-running attempts on the part of the Cambridge City Council to prevent illegal commercial punt tours on the River Cam, an issue which had attracted widespread publicity in the national media. In a case described as “the first of its kind” Lisa, acting for the Council, secured a final injunction against the defendants, prohibiting them from engaging in such activities. The case provides clear confirmation of the scope of the powers available to local authorities to control unlawful, anti-social activities in their areas and was a resounding victory for the Council.
