Cornerstone members instructed in the Examination into National Grid’s Norwich to Tilbury Project
Over the past six months, members of Cornerstone Barristers have been instructed on behalf of a number of participants, including the main host authorities, Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex County Councils, in one of the largest and most technically complex Development Consent Order examinations to date.
The Examination into National Grid’s Norwich to Tilbury Project has involved extensive written and oral advocacy across a broad range of issues, including national policy, alternatives, landscape and visual impact, heritage, compulsory acquisition, ecology, cumulative effects, arrangements for the discharge of DCO requirements and the delivery of nationally significant energy infrastructure.
The breadth of instructions reflects Cornerstone’s expertise across planning, infrastructure, environmental and public law, with members appearing on behalf of different interests throughout the Examination.
Cornerstone members involved in the Examination were Michael Bedford KC, Estelle Dehon OBE KC, Emma Dring, Ruchi Parekh and Simon Bell.
The Examining Authority’s Recommendation Report will now be prepared and submitted to the Secretary of State in early October, and her decision will follow in early January 2027 (subject to any extensions of time).
