Supreme Court Live: Philip Kolvin QC faces Westminster City Council regarding Soho Sex Shops Fees

Philip Kolvin QC is live in the Supreme Court today, acting for a number of Soho sex shops in a case concerning the overcharging of licence fees by Westminster City Council.

Westminster City Council was refused leave to appeal but successfully applied direct to the Supreme Court and will fight seven sex shop respondents again over the settling of overcharged fees. The battle will see Lieven and Lean, instructed by the council, face off against Cornerstone Barristers’ Philip Kolvin QC.

The council accepted it was wrong to charge the amount it did but refused to accept the costs and restitution charged to it and took the case to the Court of Appeal in 2013 where the original High Court judgment of 2012 was upheld.

This is the latest in what has been a long running saga, with both sides staying loyal to the same counsel, who have represented them since the beginning of this case.
