Cornerstone Barristers is a leading set of chambers, having been in practice for over 125 years. Chambers has 65 members, including 14 silks, who are well known for their work in planning, property, public law, local government, housing, community care, licensing, regulatory law and commercial matters advising private and public sector clients.
Our friendly team of clerks is experienced and dedicated to providing high standards of service for clients and members. All of our clerks are expected to be familiar with the practices of all our barristers.
We are appointing an assistant practice manager for one of the three clerking teams. They will play a vital role in supporting our barristers and Chambers’ clerking and administration team. In addition to day-to-day clerking and business development, you will help to assist, develop and maintain each barristers’ practice.
Person specification
- Articulate, able to demonstrate initiative and work as a team player
- Strong academic record (A level or equivalent minimum)
- Perform tasks accurately and efficiently under pressure
- Prioritise workload and multi-task
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- A positive “can do” attitude
- Have the ability to learn quickly and adapt to new processes
Key responsibilities
- General administration duties to support all members of Chambers wherever necessary; general diary entries, lodging court documents, entering cases and papers onto the Lex fees & diary management system and notifying barristers, and sending out the correct contractual terms dependent on the funding arrangement, etc.
- Entering all new enquires as opportunity cases, with all the correct information.
- Contacting solicitors to chase outstanding papers.
- Attending fixing appointments in various Court divisions.
- Dealing with Direct Access matters, including drafting client care letters ensuring that payment is made.
- Assisting with booking counsel where appropriate, in consultation with more senior clerks.
- Assisting with court runs when required.
- Dealing with Team emails and Clerks emails when requested to do so.
- Management of internal email addresses, with queries passed to Team Leaders as the first course of action.
