Cornerstone Barristers will host a 45-minute webinar that will highlight the best practices required for the valid running of remote licensing hearings.

It follows a unique case, the first of its kind, where a south London nightclub challenged the ruling of a local authority to revoke its license because the hearing was held remotely – a somewhat common occurrence since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. In April 2023, a district judge ruled that remote hearings were valid. Cornerstone’s Matt Lewin acted for the local authority and will speak at this webinar alongside Josef Cannon.

Matt’s key lesson for licensing authorities is the need for clear ground rules to ensure that any remote hearing takes place fairly and without doubt regarding its validity.

This webinar will address what the judgment says, the practical implications of the decision and will outline what licensing authorities need to do if they opt for remote hearings. It will be of particular interest to both public and private sector licensing teams.
