The Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 came into effect on 3 April 2018 with a lot of fanfare but also a lot of concern about the impact that it would have on local authority homelessness and allocation services.

It raised concerns about:

  • the practical operation of the prevention and relief duties introduced by the Act
  • increased number of presentations to homeless departments
  • housing assessments.

This seminar focuses on the primary changes to Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 brought in by the later legislation, and how the various additional or extended duties and powers can lawfully be operated by local authorities.

It is aimed at those advising and working in local authorities.
