Lonsdale v LB Islington (The Sekforde, Clerkenwell)

04 Oct 2019

Licensing

Successfully defended (at appeal) LB Islington’s decision to impose a series of noise conditions on the premises licence for a Grade II listed pub known as The Sekforde, following a review brought by Environmental Health based on noise nuisance.

The premises had been refurbished with considerable investment (£300k), but its popularity had led to many complaints from local residents, principally due to the lack of management of patrons outside the premises in the evening.

A preliminary legal challenge was successfully defended in the High Court at oral permission stage. The substantive Magistrates’ Court appeal was heard across 3 days before DJ Newton.
