Farringdon Pub Ltd. v LB Islington (The Coach & Horses, Farringdon)

01 Aug 2018

Licensing

Represented LB Islington in an appeal against its decision to vary the premises licence for the Coach & Horses, a high-end gastropub in the heart of Farringdon. The premises were a traditional pub which had been renovated with an investment of £1.8m. Simultaneous applications were then made to vary the existing premises licence and for a new licence.

In granting both applications the Council imposed identical conditions on both licences, given the considerable number of representations received on the potential for noise nuisance from the pub garden. The correct position on imposing conditions on a variation was negotiated, and the appeal was eventually settled.
