University Of Brighton – Varley Halls Of Residence (June 2012)

Licensing

The University of Brighton applied for a premises licence for their newly constructed campus on the outskirts of Brighton. The application met with considerable opposition from local residents who had experienced long standing anti-social behaviour from – it was alleged – students when the old halls of residence had been in operation. Planning permission for the new campus had been obtained after much local opposition as to the size and location of the campus. The application also included the operation of a catering school which would offer a restaurant service to members of the public. The application was granted by the Sub-Committee with appropriate conditions.
