Evening seminar – Cladding and fire doors
Speakers
Ranjit Bhose QC and Matt Hutchings QCVenue
Cornerstone Barristers, 2-3 Gray's Inn Square, WC1R 5JHWe will be hosting a round-table discussion about the issues social landlords are facing with cladding in tower blocks following the Grenfell tragedy.
The Government rapidly set up a programme of BRE testing of panels identified as containing Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) and circulated expert advice on interim measures to be taken where cladding was found to be unsafe. Unsurprisingly, fire safety is an area of heightened concern for residents.
As a result, social landlords are beginning to experience a new wave of ‘cladding litigation’. There is a potential for class actions brought by numerous residents in an affected block.
During this round-table, participants will have an opportunity to discuss relevant legal issues, including (but not limited to):
- Landlords’ liability for unsafe cladding
- Leaseholders’ claims in respect of service charges for the installation of cladding, subsequently found to be unsafe
- Ramifications for Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) under the Fire Safety Order 2005
It is also an opportunity for representatives from social landlords to share their experiences and tips for dealing with the latest challenges.
